ERA® REAL ESTATE BECOMES TITLE SPONSOR OF CLAY COURT CHAMPIONSHIPS Parsippany, NJ (December 7, 1998) – ERA® Real Estate, one of the nation's leading real estate franchise brokerage systems, today announced that it has signed an agreement to become the title sponsor of the Clay Court Championships, a United States Tennis Association event held at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex at Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando, FL. The event will be known as the ERA Real Estate Clay Court Championships, A USTA Event presented by 100% Colombian Coffee. The 1999 tournament marks ERA’s second year of involvement with the Clay Court Championships. A World Series event on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour, the finals of the ERA Clay Court Championships (April 19-25) will be broadcast on the CBS Television Network. The tournament, making its third consecutive appearance at the Disney sports complex, is the second oldest in United States history. It annually features 32 of the world's top men's players competing in singles and doubles competition. Going into its 89th year, the Clay Court Championships is one of the most prestigious national tennis championships in the world. Past winners of this long-standing USTA event include six-time winner Bill Tilden (1922-27), Jimmy Connors (1974, '76, '78, '79), Bobby Riggs (1936-38), Arthur Ashe (1967), Andre Agassi (1988), and Michael Chang (1997). The 1998 U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships proved to be one of the ATP Tour's best events of the year, as No. 3 seed Jim Courier defeated top-seed and defending champion Michael Chang 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 at Disney's Wide World of Sports complex in a two-hour, 44-minute marathon.
